CASA CAAP 30-4 and the Part 145 MOS give guidance for the AMO that performs NDT, on how to manage this type of maintenance. NDT can be specialised and will from time to time need specialist advice.

Integral to understanding CASA and industry NDT standards is having an NDT Level 3 resource. For medium and smaller AMOs it is not viable to employ a specialist full time. Aero Compliance provides this service and has a widely experienced and qualified Level 3, who is recognised by the National Aerospace NDT Board of Australia.

NDT Education

NDT competence can vary from simple process based tasks through to specialised inspections using complex instrumentation. The required level of competence may be stated by the regulator, or in the approved maintenance procedures and OEM data.

AS3669, EN4179 and NAS410 are the common standards applied to the qualification of NDT technicians in aerospace. In the Part 145 regulated environment, it is the Approved Maintenance Organisation and not the regulator which takes responsibility for authorising NDT staff.

NDT education has value beyond the technician. It can be most helpful for professional engineers, maintenance managers and quality staff.

Aero Compliance can offer a range of NDT educational advice and services to meet these needs.
