Colin Hockings

Colin-HockingsOriginally an aircraft maintenance engineer (A&P) with Qantas, Colin became a fully qualified NDT technician in 1975 and subsequently worked in aviation in Australia and Asia. He supervised the Qantas NDT department in Sydney for some years, and was a part time TAFE instructor and guest lecturer at the University of NSW. He was subsequently an Engineering Quality Manager responsible for Specialist Maintenance until early 2013. His career in aviation extended beyond Qantas and has always been quality and education focussed, being an active member of industry associations and advisory groups.

He concluded his time with Qantas Engineering as the Part 145 project manager responsible for the preparation of the organisation’s Exposition and procedures, for its successful transition under the Part 145 regulation as an Approved Maintenance Organisation. His regulatory experience also includes EASA and FAA. He founded Aero Compliance to continue his career, and share his knowledge with the aviation maintenance community.

As well as engineering, NDT and auditing qualifications, Colin holds a Masters of Safety Science from UNSW, and has authored and presented a variety of technical and opinion papers.
